If you deal with breakouts, oily T-zones or body acne, two plant ingredients come up again and again: neem and tea tree. Here's why they are so popular, and how to use them without upsetting your skin.
Neem: Ayurveda's skin-clearing leaf
Neem (Azadirachta indica) has been used in Indian skincare for centuries. It is valued for its antibacterial and soothing properties, which is why it is so often used for skin that is prone to spots and irritation.
Tea tree: a gentle antiseptic
Tea tree oil is one of the best-studied natural ingredients for blemish-prone skin. Used in low, properly diluted amounts it helps keep pores clean. Never apply undiluted essential oil directly to the skin.
A simple routine for acne-prone skin
- Cleanse twice a day with a mild bar or cleanser – don't over-wash, as stripping oil can make skin produce more.
- Use lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean towel.
- Moisturise with a light, non-greasy product. Oily skin still needs hydration.
- Hands off – picking spots spreads bacteria and can leave marks.
- Change pillowcases every few days and keep phone screens clean.
Consistency beats intensity. A gentle routine you follow every day works better than harsh products used once in a while.
Where our Neem & Mentha Soap fits in
Our Handmade Neem & Mentha Soap combines neem with cooling mint in a cold-process bar that keeps its natural glycerin, so skin feels fresh and clean rather than tight. You can use it on the face, back and chest.
Note: if your acne is severe, painful or leaves scars, please see a dermatologist. Always patch test a new product first.
